The Princess who almost became The Queen
Had not there been any changes in the political scenario of Nepal, Purnika might have been the first lady leader of the nation of Nepal. This was possible as the cabinet chaired by the late Girija Prasad Koirala had amended the royal succession rule to allow daughters to be crowned as the reigning monarch. (Source: News from August 1, 2006). But unfortunately, before the amendment was passed from the cabinet, monarchy ended with a series of unfortunate events in Nepal. Therefore, Purnika is also referred as The Princess who almost became The Queen in Nepali news media.
Since 2017, Purnika officially got the citizenship of Nepal. She herself went to the Chief District Officer’s office in Kathmandu for the legal process and this event is also marked as the first time someone from the Royal family did that on their own. Prior to these, the helping officers used to do the job for the Royal members. This was of course, reasonable at that time considering the security and the royal protocol.
